Our PNAS Nexus Article Featured in SIAM News
I was excited to learn that our recent article in PNAS Nexus, coauthored with Kevin Slote, Kevin Daley, Rayan Succar, Maurizio Porfiri, and Igor Belykh, was featured in SIAM News. It’s always rewarding to see collaborative research reach a broader audience!
The article examines the causal effects of social media activity on firearm purchases, combining tools from data science, causal inference, and network dynamics to better understand how online behavior can translate into real-world outcomes. Questions at the intersection of technology, society, and public safety are inherently complex, and this project benefited enormously from the interdisciplinary perspectives each collaborator brought to the table.
Being featured in SIAM News provided an opportunity to share this work beyond our immediate research community and to engage a wider audience interested in applied mathematics and data-driven approaches to societal challenges. I’m grateful to SIAM for highlighting the study and helping amplify the conversation around this topic.
